The Campania region holds some of the most productive agricultural land in Italy: certain crops can yield up to four harvests per year. Wine has been in production here since the 13th century and was heavily influenced by the Greeks. Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo, and Coda di Volpe are three varietals of Greek origin and represent some of the most important grapes grown in the region. Additionally, Aglianico, the base grape of Campania's only DOCG wine, has not been proven to be of Greek origin, but many believe it is a strong possibility. The last ten years have brought incredible improvements to the area, and modern vinification methods have added degrees of complexity to the wines and improved international recognition. Campania is certainly leading a new trend of Italian wines in small production.
